The term 'Google it' is becoming a byword used to describe searching for something on the Internet. The days of thumbing through a book, or waiting for the newspaper to come out, are passing. The Broadband uptake in Australia over the past 12 months has been huge and will continue to grow rapidly.. Everybody wants to be connected.. People now tend to 'just Google' what they want direct, like 'houses to rent in Perth' rather than having to find 'Yellow pages'.. then this, then that!
My son and his phone. Something happened the other day that caught my attention. My son and I were talking about something and he said "Maybe they have one on Ebay?" Whilst I was thinking "we'll have a look when we get home" He pulled out his phone, hit a few buttons and said "Yes, they have 6 of them!" I realised then how Generation 'Y' was dealing with stuff. He didn't want to wait, he wanted the answer 'now' and pulled out his phone and got it.. which brings me to Googles G-Phone. It has taken over 10 million dollars and 3 years to develop and is out now in the US. The phone company sent a team of 20-50 people to the Googleplex for a year to work with them! I am having to face the fact that my 25 year old searches for stuff in a different way to what I do.. and Google (and the Apple i-Phone) is all for it!
